LIVESTOCK CONSIGNMENTS AND SHOW

Show and Sale Livestock Entry Form Sheep Division Angora Goat Division

Rules Applying to All Livestock Divisions

Please read all rules carefully prior to filling in the entry form.
Livestock rules will be strictly enforced.

Livestock Rules

  1. All sheep will be judged 60% on wool, 40% on conformation. The length of wool should be appropriate to show off the quality of the fleece for each
particular breed. It is recommended that fine wool sheep have 1 inches
of wool, medium wool sheep 2 inches and long wool sheep 3 inches.
    Belly shearing is not allowed.
  2. ALL sheep entered must be registered with their appropriate association. Proper registration is required for show participation. You may fill in “pending” under registration number on entry form. However, registration certificates will be
inspected upon check-in. Proper ear tags are required.
  3. White Angora goats will be judged according to the American Angora Goat
Breeder’s Association standards. Colored Angora goats will be judged according
    to CAGBA Standards.
  4. Each lot needs to have 5 or more exhibitors and a minimum of 20 animals entered to qualify for a separate lot. Any lot without the required
numbers will be combined with another lot at the discretion of the sheep
show coordinator. Exhibitors with the required numbers may request a separate lot but must do so by April 1, 2009.
  5. Individual animals may be shown in ONLY one lot. An exhibitor may enter only two sheep or goats per class. An exhibitor is defined as a farm or an individual. Two
people using the same farm name are still one exhibitor. Each class must have at
least two exhibitors and three animals or it may be deleted.
  6. All animals must be sound and healthy and free of external parasites. Sheep and
goat entries must be under two years of age except for does entered in
    the aged doe class.
The Black Sheep Gathering committee reserves the right to require the removal of any animal judged unhealthy by the committee.
    •    All sheep and goats coming from out of state are required to have
    . . .health certificates.
  7. No commercial sales other than animals are allowed in the barn. Please limit farm
name signs to a practical size, and any decorations to the subject of your animals.
See rule 12 for Farm Display Pens. No wool or mohair fleeces may be sold on
the grounds except through the Wool and Mohair Show and Sale.
  8. Every effort will be made to give exhibitors the number of pens requested but an exhibitor may get fewer pens than requested due to limited space. If space
allows there will be communal tack pens made available to be shared by exhibitors. Aisles must be kept clear and feed and equipment stored in
    trailers or assigned areas.
  9. Exhibitors must provide their own water buckets and feed. Check entry form for
    straw purchases.
  10. Pen cards will be available in the show ring in the barn and must be posted for
each animal. Please identify animals for sale in some easily recognizable way.
  11. ANIMALS ENTERED FOR SALE OR EXHIBIT ONLY CANNOT EXCEED 25% OF
THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ANIMAL ENTRIES FROM ONE FARM.
  12. Farm Display Pen (FDP): If you wish to put up a table or elaborate display you
need to order a FDP ahead of time. Displays may not intrude into the aisle. The
cost is $25. It is the size of one animal pen. The FDP pen may contain up to 2
sheep or 3 goats, tables, chairs, large signs or items, examples of farm products
etc., however NO SALES of farm products other than animals are allowed in the
barn. FDPs are assigned on a first come first serve basis AFTER all animal spaces
are secured. Check the box on the entry form and you will be notified at 2-3 weeks
prior to the show. Please send a separate check for the Farm Display Pen.
  13. Junior Sheep Show—9am Sunday June 21st. This show is open to anyone up to
20 years in age, all breeds of sheep both white and colored. All sheep entered
must be registered with their appropriate association. All General Rules and
Livestock rules 1, 2, 6-12 apply. White and colored sheep will be shown together,
if we receive enough entries, the lot will be split.

Adult volunteers are needed to work the show ring.

ANGORA GOAT DIVISION

Colored Angora Goat-National Show

The Black Sheep Gathering has a long and close relationship with colored Angora goats. One of the first colored goat shows in the country was held at the 1989 Black Sheep Gathering in conjunction with the World Congress on Colored Sheep. In 1999, when the Colored Angora Goat Record transformed into the Colored Angora Goat Breeder's Association (CAGBA), the foundation meeting was held at the BSG.

In celebration of 20 years of colored Angora goat shows and the 10th anniversary of CAGBA, the 2009 BSG will host the National Colored Angora Goat Show!

Mac Gilliat will judge the show on Saturday in the Goat barn. Mac has years of experience with Angora goats and an appreciation for a fine, quality fleece. He has judged the Nationals before and was a well-received judge at the BSG in 2008. Mac loves to talk goats, so we are pleased to have him back this year. Mac will also judge the mohair fleece show, Friday at 4pm in the Wheeler Pavilion. This is an open judging and attendees will have the opportunity to learn a lot as Mac discusses his placings.

CAGBA will have a booth in the goat barn with promotional items, raffle tickets and a show book. A banquet, presentation and annual meeting are planned. We are expecting an excellent turnout of some of the country's finest Angora goats and a first class show.

See you there!
